Blade and Soul Early Access – Black Desert talks about the Cash Shop

bladeandsoul2So I did play Blade and Soul over the weekend – I got the lowest tier pack so didn’t have any of the ‘free’ spending money that the other tiers received. One note I was playing with someone that had the highest founder pack – they were gaining experience at about twice the rate as I was an after a couple of hours I was level ten and they were level 20. As of yesterday I was mid 20’s.

I was on a low populated server I guess because although other people were complaining about ques and getting in, I didn’t have any problems. I still don’t have any idea bout crafting or how to craft – I should probably learn how to do it.

I shouldn’t bash too much on Blade and Soul. I do enjoy the combat, questing has been ok. I enjoy the dungeons although I really hate the bid on loot thing, especially when you’re the only one that can use it, and other people are still bidding on it. PVP has been ok, I keep my uniform on and sometimes I win and other times I lose which is fine.

I will still play it some, but I think that Black Desert has my heart. In Blade and Soul, it seems the only thing to do is quests and kill things (by the way doing all the quests is the quickest way to level).

Black Desert has revealed details about the cash shop –

http://forum.blackdesertonline.com/index.php?/topic/8038-pm-diary-22-cash-shop-and-more/

Here are the highlights.

Wildstar playing with Attunement

I wanted to give you a quick update on my attunement progression. I maxed out on my elder gems last week, then got enough for my attunement gem (150) yesterday. Now I’m working on doing the flame elemental quest, then the big part will be getting to 32k Rep with the Dominion. The easiest way to do this is by working on daily quests, which fortunately even if you leveled up mostly with PVP (like I did) you should have less than a week before you will be at the 32k rep.

If you do all of the quests in both areas I have consistently gotten 2k rep. I know it’s boring and there other ways you can get rep (doing dungeons and adventures), but it only takes an hour or so to do all of the quests and you should be doing them anyway.

The plan this weekend is to finish the rep and then move onto the next stage (the adventures). Below are some links to some good guides that I’ve found online and I hope you find them useful as well.

Enjoy your weekend.

ArcheAge Pay to Play and My early impressions

First our thoughts and prayers go out to those who experienced severe weather over the last few days. We had a few thunderstorms and a tornado warning, but only had some minor damage (limbs down, things like that).

I did it, took the bait and bought the beta for Archeage. I didn’t want to, but Elder Scrolls was really not turning out to be something I enjoyed playing. I usually play a game for a bit longer, if I’m even not enjoying it, but one of the facets which I enjoy the most, PVP, I wasn’t able to access. I have heard that it takes some time to load up, but I would wait for an hour and there would be nothing but the loading screen. So I need something to hold me till Wildstar comes out, so I thought I would hopefully get my money’s worth between now and the beginning of June.

Speaking of Wildstar, I did enjoy the beta weekend, although for some reason it seems my weekends are filled mostly with family things. I did get to enjoy a few hours of Beta on Friday and Sunday. Saturday I had a road trip with my daughter (she was in a play) and Sunday, much of the day was spent in a JackAThon. Over the past couple of months we’ve watched all the 24 seasons, from the first. We just finished season six and started on 7. I don’t think we’ll be able to finish by the time the new one comes out, but it has been a lot of fun.

So even though I bought Archeage on Thursday, I think it was anyway, the first day that it was available, I played a couple of minutes on Friday but didn’t really play it till last night. So far here are some things I like about ArcheAge

Movement is easy. One thing I noticed almost immediately, it’s easy to move around to do your quests. A reminder I’m still in the early levels, I think I made it to level ten, and you have an awesome sprint and I have a horse now. The horse quest was very cool as you had to grow it from a tiny foal into something that you can ride. It also levels with you, I think my horse has made it to level 9.

Combat is pretty smooth, not quite as smooth as Wildstar but several steps up from the clunky combat of ESO.

Quests seem to work. Of course they should, the game has already been out in Korea for awhile. It was just refreshing to not have to hold my breath to see if the quest I’m attempting will work or not.

Next time I’ll give you a list of some things I don’t  like. Till then, stay safe.

Wildstar Winter Beta Patch, AMA, and more

Wildstar Winter Beta Patch, AMA, and more

Hope you had a good week gaming. After a drought of news over the holidays, Wildstar is ramping up things again.

A news bit before we begin –

A Wildstar livestream will happen this Saturday – complete details can be found here.

http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/news/stalker_class_livestream_this_saturday_bonus_pappy_vs_frost_battle.php

An AMA (ask me anything) on the mmorpg forums.

One note in the AMA – they didn’t talk about Warplots, or Raids, but did promise that there would be a ‘ton’ of info in the coming months and the raids will be ‘BRUTAL’. Sounds good to me.

His posts (answering the questions) can be found here – http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/userPosts/2602011

Some highligts.

** Dungeons will have a veteran mode.

** Raids don’t have a difficulty setting, as they are EXTREMELY difficult. There isn’t going to be an easy version of the raid.

*** We think Elder Game is important, but we think leveling is important, too. I mean, why would you want to stick around to see the Elder Game if your leveling experience was terrible? 😛

*** We’ve put a ton of time into the leveling experience to make sure it’s not a painful experience. Usually when you play MMOs there is this inverted bell shaped curve. You start out with REALLY high production value, then it goes down in quality once you hit level 20, then it stays boring until the last ten levels. We are aiming to have a varied and entertaining experience in each zone. Whether it’s level 1, 27, 42 or 50.

*** Regarding time estimates, the average person can probably get to level cap in about 150-200 hours. That’s not including stuff like Tradeskills, Housing, PvP, Dungeons, Ship Hand Missions, etc.

*** We’ve worked extremely (excessively?) hard to make sure that this game has something for everyone, and it’s a fun experience throughout the leveling AND elder game.

[[ 150-200 hours leveling ]]

I found this interesting – Elder Game is Wildstars endgame. Here are some notes (from him) on what you can do when you reach the cap.

**** 1.) We have new zones that will come online fairly regularly, so there will be TONS of questing to be had.

2.) There are areas that we internally call Pocket Cap Playspaces (or, PCPs). These areas are cap level content that have public events and quests only available at elder game. These are in the world and in various zones and in instanced areas.

3.) Public Events: Scaling (in difficulty) group quests

*** Regarding their difficulty, these should be something that the average player should be able to handle if they have the proper gear. There will be some areas though, that may be more difficult with bosses and public events. Also, if you are looking for ridiculous hardcore antics, our dungeons and raids will satiate that desire, methinks.

Open PVP? Yes.

So he said he wasn’t going to talk about Warplots – but hmmm…

*** Despite the fact that I said I wouldn’t talk about Warplots, I’ll answer a couple of questions here. You can create a Warplot ONLY at level 50, they are Elder Game content. You get upgrades by earning a currency within Warplots, I won’t say what those upgrades are, but you can use that currency to buy instruments of death. Also we’ve said that you can capture a raid boss and unleash them upon a rival team before… so… you can do that by getting a rare drop off of a boss in a dungeon or raid. Watching/playing that in playtests is pretty damned entertaining as they crush hordes of players. I’m extremely excited for the coming weeks and months ahead, because I think people are going to love seeing and playing this feature. 40 vs. 40 death fortress combat! What’s not to love?

Ok – that makes me just a tad bit excited.

Two raids (40 man) at launch.

And Dungeons – how many will be in at launch, etc.

***  Dungeons are 5 player instances. We will have 4 regular dungeons and 4 veteran versions of veterans. Then after that a 20 player raid, and a 40 player raid. Our dungeons basically take telegraphs and make them insanely crazy patterns that are for a more hardcore demographic. The cool part though, is that the telegraphs in the PVE realm, kind of train the player to become used to that style of combat. There are lots big, insane bosses and massive environments as well.

*** We ALSO have adventures, which are another style of group content. These are effectively a mix of PVE content, with 5 man group combat. They are also all different mechanically in their goal. You’ll hear more about these in the coming weeks. It’s some of my favorite content in our game.

Winter Patch – the patch notes are on Reddit –

http://www.reddit.com/r/WildStar/comments/1vanz1/new_winter_beta_patch_post_your_ndafree_stuff/

A large patch has hit the beta servers. From the article at MMORPG we learn that they have made:

– multiple changes to how classes work

– Chua now have underwear and female characters have had boob reductions

– Changes to the first PVP match – if you’ve watched some twitch feeds, the game used to start with masks spawning in the middle. Now each team starts with a mask at their base. It will be interesting to see how that change affects the match, could lead to some good strategizing.

– Lots of tweaks and tune ups

– PVP loot and XP tuned up, they have mentioned a couple of times they want the PVP experience and PVE leveling to take about the same amount of time. Again will be interesting to watch feeds and see if this is true or not. They also claim to raise the rewards a bit. I know in watching some of the streams it seemed that the only reward people were getting was health pots…

Wintersday Coming to a Close… my Thoughts

Hope you had a wonderful holiday. I had a great time. Most of it was spent on playing Guild Wars 2, besides of course goofing off with family and friends… and watching other people open their presents. I think my daughter probably racked up the most. For some reason everyone loves her and she got tons of money, which she promptly had me spend on buying clothes from sites that had sales the week after Christmas. I must say though she is a pretty savvy shopper.

WintersDay for Guild Wars 2 is almost over. In fact it ends today January 3rd. I think of all of the monthly events we’ve had so far, this was probably my least favorite.

Halloween I really liked the quest you could get an awesome back piece. WintersDay had a back piece, but I thought it stunk. I also enjoyed the random Candy Corn events around the countryside. The mini-dungeon I also liked.

Lost Shores – even though it was fast and frantic, I thoroughly enjoyed the end event. Although it did take several hours to complete, the loot at the end of all that was pretty awesome.

Wintersday I have made some money selling the Presents, I have done all the new things, did do the random dungeons for each city. The loot I got from the chests was pretty pitiful. I wasn’t really interested in making the toys…. Maybe I’m just a scrooge. I did like the fact that the catapults now hurled presents and confetti at the walls. That was pretty cool.

One thing I wish I had realized for the other events was I should have ran my other Level 80 and I would have gotten twice the loot.

What’s the event going to be for January. I’m not really sure. The monthly achievements were changed and instead of an empty place we have Jumping Puzzles (which I don’t do), along with Fractals. Hopefully the Feb. PVP patch will be something super cool and awesome.

What was your favorite part of the events?

The Guardian Begins – Guild Wars 2

PvP

Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

We played quite a bit of PVP over the weekend. We usually do our daily quest – then work on PVP. Eents are easy to get, the other parts, gathering and variety of enemies, not so much. Like I’ve mentioned before we either do really well, or come in third place. So again we are in third place. This is against the two “best” servers who have a whole lot more people on in the middle of the night… and during the day

time as well.

So my goal for this week is to level a Guardian. My goal is to get him to level 40 or so without using crafting. Once I get them to 40 then I’ll craft some stuff. I plan on using him in PVP this coming weekend. I created him yesterday morning so we’ll see how it goes.

IMPORTANT note / tip –

If you already have a level 80 then you’ll want to complete your daily achievement bits with them (you get more money).

It is interesting playing the Guardian, it’s been a while since I’ve bashed with one. It is also interesting doing the Asura storyline since I’ve never done it before. The one thing I really wish they would get rid of is all of the bots. Whoever is programming them is pretty smart… the one I saw yesterday attacked only when they were attacked. He was in low level Charr territory and was in a good place to get mobs / participate in an event – yet was still out of the way from the main drag.

Guild Wars 2 Needs some “Intermediate” Rewards

Anet, France - Sepulchral Chapel

Hope your day is going well. A new patch came out last night and one of the things they tweaked were dungeons.

Details can be found here – https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/dungeons/Dungeon-Updates/first#post153050

It now seems that Anet is pretty much against anything that you can farm… but in order to get almost any of the “good” gear you need to farm something. If you don’t know there is already a diminishing returns in “events”. After you kill x number of mobs then you will only get trash loot from the mobs.

The reason a game puts in these gates is because they don’t want you to get to the final content too fast. This is sad. This cap on the dungeons is only the latest in a string of attacks – I’m not really sure what they want folks to do when they reach 80 and unfortunately I don’t think they know exactly what they want us to do either.

Currently they have the gear you can get when you’re 80 – and then you have legendary – which requires hundreds of time consuming tasks. I think they need to figure out some intermediate things to do in the meantime.

I am still having fun – got to play with a dragon yesterday in Frostgorge and that was a blast. Although for killing the dragon I got a silver piece, a green, two blues, 300 karma and a 4 silver repair bill….

I also do enjoy PVP in WvW. Enjoy your day.

Highlights from the Guild Wars 2 – Q and A Session

Some things I found interesting from the Q and A session yesterday from Mike Zadorojny (I think I spelled that right).

http://kotaku.com/5928822/one-of-the-designers-of-guild-wars-2-is-answering-your-questions-right-now

A good explanation of GW2 and what makes it different.

Mike Z. – We built GW2 from the ground up to be a great social experience for players. We removed the idea of kill stealing, we made buffs and area based rather than single allies, added the ability for anyone to ressurect another player (even during combat), and everyone gets their own loot and exp for killing creatures, and more… We want players to choose how they want to play the game and not be forced into archtypes or game play styles that they’re not interested in.

A looking for group tool?

Mike Z. – You can flag yourself as “looking from group” from the contacts menu in the game. This will show up visibly as an icon my your name and help others find you.

Me – I actually didn’t know that was in the game…

Here’s an explanation on how to set it – “If you open up the contacts (Default key Y) there is a LFG tab where you can set yourself as LFG, so waiting at the door isn’t the LFG system. ”

Quite a bit of a discussion on armor and the variety of armor and it seems they are still working on creating more cool stuff, which is always a good thing.

How to check your ping / stats in game. (learning some good stuff)

From Ritaav – Add -perf to the command line to start the game and you’ll get a bunch of stats over on the right side of the screen, including fps and ping.

So what is the team doing while we eagerly await the launch.

Mike Z. – Right now, the rest of the team I’m on is actually playing through one of the maps (that hasn’t been shown) for the next 6 hours. We’re playing each other’s content helping make suggestions and find issues so that when the game goes live we can have it as polished as you guys have helped us make the starter areas. We’re also reviewing all of the feedback that the players gave us this weekend and addressing them in between play sessions.

A mega legendary?? Combining two legendaries to make one.

Mike Z. Maybe… ^^

Will buying boosts be “necessary”?

Mike Z. – Most (if not all) of our testing and play through feedback is done without the use of boosts. However, even if a player gets to the point where they feel like they’re outpacing the content in the map they’re currently in, there are multiple maps in the same level range that can help you advance. Also, since you get exp from crafting, harvesting (also a good way to make money selling to crafters), your personal story, exploration rewards, etc., there is a ton of stuff in the game to help you level as you play. The boosts are there for convenience, they’re not a requirement.

I’m anxious for launch too!

For those of you who fought the huge fire elemental in Metrica Province – and died I think a total of 6 or 7 times… here’s what was up with him.

Mike Z. Yeah sorry about that. The fire elemental was totally my fault. His minions got buffed and I didn’t realize it until after we were done prepping the build. Also he was hitting harder than he should have. I’ll have him fixed for launch… I promise! For those of you who liked the challenge, we still plan on doing harder versions of these guys later in the game. In the starter area I don’t think he needs to be super challenging that it’s not fun.

Is there anything small groups can do in WvW?

Mike Z. – There are actually a decent number of smaller objectives for small bands of players to take. During this last the weekend event I was running around with one other person taking supply camps, allying NPC groups with my world and taking over the sentries on the road. There definitely is a lot of play with the larger groups (taking keeps and the like) but there’s still things for smaller
teams can do. Also by having smaller teams you can actually take more places at once forcing the large mob to react to you.

Will the Hunger Royale and other interesting PvP experiments make it into the final game?

Mike Z. – They won’t be in game at launch, but we learned a lot from the final events we’ve done for the BWEs. I’d love to see variations on some of them come back as activities. That’s something the Live Team will have to look at. :)

Leaked Patch Notes Guild Wars 2 – More Notes

English: PVP (Small protected vehicle) Françai...
English: PVP (Small protected vehicle) Français : PVP (Petit véhicule protégé) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Some more of our thoughts on the leaked Guild Wars 2 patch notes. You can see the first bit we wrote about here.

I’m pretty sad that their won’t be a beta this weekend, but it is also a good thing they are getting some new hardware. I think probably we’ll see another stress test before we see another beta, but that’s just a guess.

Gameplay

  • Iconics have 1% of the normal hate
  • Fl 1 should now open the options menu
  • If a player goes from alive to dead, we now give them a waypoint to port to so they can resurrect

The waypoint thing is a good thing. I had heard some folks couldn’t rez because they had no cash. So that is a good change.

  • Input binding:
  • There are now distinct left and right shift keys

All good – the more input keys we can bind the better.

  • Rewards:
  • Map complete rewards are now available
  • If a transformation isn’t allowed to interact with bundles, drop any bundles the character may be holding when transformed (No more flamethrower ooze
  • Map complete doesn’t trigger every time you zone into a map now
  • Gadgets!turrets now have a concept of an “authority”
  • The player that creates the gadget is assigned as that gadget’s authority
  • This basically means that players that place down the Siege blueprints can kick out other players who are in their siege weapons if they want to use them
  • “Move to Target” split into underwater and terrestrial
  • “Move to Target” no longer applicable when downed
  • Only 5 unique combatants can combo with a given combo field1.
  • Characters that aren’t alive don’t return legendary weapon Item Defs
  • Mystic Forge only takes one of each kind of item [F 234559]
  • Traittiersarein
  • Added account bound items
  • Players can no longer redirect to a map if they are already redirecting
  • Added a skill point currency type
  • A shard selection bug has been fixed
  • Input bindings have been implemented
  • Improved how “Fear” works
  • Recharge slows should be slowing for the proper amount now
  • Spawn scaling for low-level events has been adjusted
  • Level 70+ rare items have the potential to salvage out more materials as deemed by special reward tables
  • Auto-attacks no longer continue to attack an unselected target
  • Missiles now fire in the direction of the camera when the player has no target and is holding down the right mouse button (Side note: This is awesome)
  • Players can now queue for multiple maps concurrently
  • The default mouse scroll rate has been changed to 2x
  • Mouse-looking no longer drives a characters movement unless they’re executing an upper body skill
  • Characters can no longer jump if the jump state doesn’t exist
  • The Fear mechanic has been improved
  • Action Char Fear Char
  • Action Skill Fear

Map complete rewards are good. Hopefully they will be useful for your profession. I did get some rewards but I couldn’t use them.
Using a siege weapon you’ve spent cash on is always a good thing. I really hated spending the cash and then not being able to use it. It’s also good that others can use it – but you can kick them out of it if you want to.
Spawn scaling for low level events – a good thing hopefully they’ll change the timers just a wee bit. I was in one area during the beta and we kept getting facerolled (a group of about 10 or so). Just as we killed the last one the whole cave 30-40 mobs would respawn at the same time.
I like the missles firing in the direction you’re looking – hopefully this works for arrows as well. That will be fun to test next time we get a chance.
Fear skill changed – guess this will be good for folks that use it.

  • LFG:
  • More backend implementation
  • Blocked players no longer show up in LFG
  • PvP:
  • Added rank rewards to PvP Ranks
  • Changed from a level to a level range per recent PvP Rank discussions
  • PvpRank has been split from Glory
  • Ranks now define a range of PvP ranks
  • Placeholder awards are going through the reward manager
  • Added support for Glory Boosts
  • Start Auto Tournaments as soon as there are enough rosters ready (and send out a countdown when the match is about to start)
  • Tournament server improvements
  • PvP Lobby waypoint travel is free
  • Added a new reward type for PvP rank up
  • Players with an uOfflinen status can now be invited to tournaments
  • Players are unable to send tournament invites to themselves

Tournaments will be fun. It will be interesting to see how the PVP ranks / glory work. Will it only be for the structured PVP (don’t think so because you get glory in WvW too).
Rewards are always a good thing.

  • WvW:
  • Cannons now display red targeting circles to the enemy
  • Game ending has been smoothed out
  • Players receive a warning message and are redirected (configurable in content)
  • The score dialog now displays a message telling the player their team’s final position
  • Gadgets now report their WvW team
  • Gadgets can now insert their shard names into their name if they know their WvW team
  • WvW travel is free
  • Clicking “Go to WvW” will close the score dialog now (by design)
  • Squad members may now speak into the squad channel
  • Removed /.sq dev command
  • Added /squadjoin and /squadleave client commands
  • Commanders are now named “Commander <Playername>’
  • Players are no longer able to log back in to WvW maps
  • Implemented /squadinfo and /supplyinfo

Free travel will help some with the cash flow.
Red Circles are important – especially if you’re using them to gauge when you are ready to dodge.
Being able to speak to your squad is pretty important.
Love all the new commands. I think it will make things go smoother and even more fun.

  • Mystic Forge:
  • Polish
  • Added click and drag of slotted materials
  • Added flames’
  • Added a quantity check for ingredients that require a certain item count before we request to forge a new item
  • The Mystic Forge can take consumable subtypes
  • Sparkly polish
  • Now compares are weight class
  • Now uses upgrade component types
  • Added support for a “none” trinket type
  • We hide the ingredient slots while animating then fade them back in when we display the reward dialog
  • Fixed being able to match item subtypes correctly if set to “any

Didn’t really use the Mystic Forge but all sounds good – especially the “”sparkly polish”” – they mentioned it twice so I bet it really shines now.

  • Ranger:
  • Pets can no longer be swapped out to instantly come back to life

I played a ranger up to level 25 or so… not sure what I think about the pet swapping. There was already a cooldown. Did they make the cooldown longer – do you now have to be out of combat to swap pets. I’m not sure so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

We should have more of our thoughts tomorrow. Till then enjoy your week.

Hopefully you are as excited as I am about the upcoming weekend. Here are some tips for helping the weekend go smoother.

1. Make sure your game client is updated. Every day I’ve started it has had at least a small update. You’ll want to make sure to update at least once before tomorrow.

2. Choose your server. There is an official list here – http://www.arena.net/blog/choosing-and-transferring-worlds-in-guild-wars-2
Reddit has a discussion going on of servers and who is going to be where.  http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/srmfg/homeworlds_of_various_online_communities_for/
Pick your poison.

3. Pick a race and a profession. Most of you will already have done this. Here are a couple of links to the wiki –
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Playable_races – remember human, charr and norns are available this weekend.

4. Some maps to help you find your way.

5. If you want to play with skills you’ll be getting you can find them here – http://www.gw2builds.org/

A reminder if you want to check out what your character will look like at level 80 – then play PVP (not the WvW). You will have access to all of the weapons, skills, armor and pets. You can do the structured pvp and play around with your builds.

Hope you have fun. I’m trying to wrap up all the work I normally do on the weekends and get it finished today.
